Ford Mustang Steering Recall: What Owners Need to Know

March 20, 2025 by Chuck Panzarella

Ford has recently announced an important safety recall affecting certain 2022-2023 Mustang models. If you own one of these vehicles, especially if it was previously repaired under recall number 24V-493, you should be aware of this new safety issue.

The Problem: Unintentional Steering Wheel Movement

The recall (NHTSA Campaign Number 25V096000) addresses a potentially serious steering issue. According to Ford, the secondary steering torque sensor in affected vehicles may not be calibrated properly. This defect can cause the steering wheel to turn side to side against the driver’s intentions.

This isn’t just an inconvenience – a steering wheel that turns unintentionally can lead to loss of vehicle control and significantly increase the risk of an accident.

How This Happens

Issues like this typically occur when initial repairs aren’t implemented correctly. In this case, vehicles previously fixed under recall number 24V-493 apparently didn’t receive proper calibration of the steering sensors.

Modern vehicles rely heavily on electronic controls and sensors for critical functions like steering. When these sophisticated systems aren’t properly calibrated during repairs, they can malfunction, creating dangerous situations for drivers.

Affected Vehicles

This recall specifically impacts:

  • 2022-2023 Ford Mustang models
  • Only those previously repaired under recall number 24V-493
  • Approximately 332 vehicles in total

The Fix

Ford will be providing a free remedy for this issue. Dealers will update the power steering control module (PSCM) software at no cost to owners. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by March 31, 2025.

What You Should Do

If you own a 2022-2023 Ford Mustang:

  1. Check if your vehicle was previously repaired under recall 24V-493
  2. Watch for notification from Ford (expected by March 31, 2025)
  3. Contact Ford customer service at 866-436-7332 with questions (reference recall number 25S11)
  4. Alternatively, contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit nhtsa.gov

Warning Signs to Watch For

If you notice your steering wheel moving unexpectedly or turning against your intentions, this could indicate your vehicle is affected by this recall. Don’t ignore these warning signs – they could potentially lead to a serious accident.

How We Can Help Protect Your Rights

At Consumer Action Law Group, we understand that vehicle recalls involving critical safety components like steering should always be taken seriously. If you’ve experienced problems with your vehicle’s steering even after previous repairs, or if Ford fails to address the issue properly, we can help you understand your legal options.

As consumer protection attorneys specializing in auto fraud cases, we can help determine if you have a case under lemon laws or other consumer protection statutes. Many vehicle owners don’t realize they have significant rights when faced with recurring vehicle defects or improper repairs.

The Bottom Line

If you own an affected Mustang, make sure to get the recall repair completed as soon as possible to ensure your safety on the road. However, if you continue to experience issues after the repair or feel your concerns aren’t being properly addressed by the manufacturer, remember that you don’t have to face these challenges alone.

Our team at Consumer Action Law Group is committed to helping consumers protect their rights when it comes to vehicle safety and proper repairs. We invite you to contact us at 818-254-8413 for your free case evaluation to discuss your specific situation.
